Check your institution’s process first. A medical certificate can be supporting documentation, but it does not automatically approve an extension, absence or special-consideration application.

A missed class, an assignment extension and an examination absence may follow different processes. Start with your institution’s official student support or special-consideration page, and contact the relevant team if the instructions are unclear.
For example, the University of Sydney publishes its own special-consideration guidance. Use your own institution’s requirements rather than assuming another university’s process applies. Linking to a policy does not imply an institution endorses Medigate.

Having the right paperwork starts with understanding what the recipient is asking for. If a particular form is required, contact Medigate before paying to check whether the service can meet that request.

- Whether you need to notify a tutor or student support separately
- The process for getting help if a deadline is approaching
Request an assessment with Medigate
Medigate’s study certificate service is for people aged 18 and over. Describe your symptoms, relevant medical history and the dates you want assessed. Select a single-day or multi-day option from the service page.
An Australian registered doctor reviews your request and may ask for more information. The doctor decides whether a certificate and the requested duration are appropriate. Approval and delivery time depend on the assessment.
Complete your institution’s application
If a certificate is issued, check the emailed document and submit it through your institution’s required process. Applying to Medigate does not submit an extension or special-consideration application on your behalf.
Keep a copy of what you submit. Questions about the institution’s decision should go to its student support team; questions about the Medigate document should go to our support team.
